Jimmie Applegate The entire community was mislead regarding the supposedly “non-partisan” Health Care Town Hall Meeting held last evening at the Hal Holmes Center, The supposed Town Hall Meeting was organized and chaired by Mr. Steve Verhey, a very liberal “non-partisan”. The single speaker was a retired medical doctor who is also a well known liberal, and who admitted so in his opening remarks. There were no community leaders who were formal speakers. And Mr. Verhey said that contrary to the announcement in the paper no legislators or legislative staff were invited, and that none would attend.
Mr. Verhey had the audience count off and break into small groups of 10, and 10-15 minutes were allotted to discuss 5 “push poll” type questions. For example: “Do you think adequate health care should be/is a right in the United States?” and “A single payer program (“Medicare for all”) is thought to be impossible for the US, but if it were possible, would you favor it?”
Remember there were groups of ten people, five questions and fifteen minutes total for all five questions. That computes to 18 seconds/person. Our group for example did not reach consensus on the first question and we did not consider any of the other four. One person from each group was asked to report for the group–needless to say it didn’t work! Open Town Hall Meetings should be formatted to encourage and permit open discussion by members of the community who are present, especially if only 50+ people attend.
The format was wrong for 50+ people who came to learn and to participate; not to be manipulated and indoctrinated! Too bad it was such a waste of time. I am interested in reading the report of this so-called Town Hall Meeting in Monday’s Ellensburg Daily Record.

Jimmie Applegate Don’t forget the non-partisan Town Hall meeting tonight. Details below. Come prepared to treat this with the respect and decorum it deserves since it is being held in the public library where information and knowledge is king, and queen too!
Town hall-style discussion of health care reform
Join us for a town hall-style nonpartisan discussion of health care reform. We aim to have a relaxed, informative, community-oriented, contructive conversation. Speakers will include local physicians and other community leaders; representatives from the offices of Congressman Doc Hastings and Senators Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray have been invited.
If you are able, please bring an item for the food bank or a donation to support medical charity care in Kittitas County.
This event is co-sponsored by the Ellensburg Public Library.

Jimmie Applegate Want to take a first hand look at government run health care? Check out the video “Don’t Get Sick After June” for some harrowing descriptions of government run health care on the Rosebud Indian Reservation. Answer the question “Why not?” before watching the video. Then see if you are correct.

Jimmie Applegate Well, folks it should be clear to all by now that Director of Ecology Jay Manning will not repeal the upper Kittitas County exempt well moratorium no matter what the county commissioners do. Kittitas County Commissioners have negotiated in good faith in the face of continued delay and obfuscation on the part of DOE. But now we, and they, know the rest of the story. We also know it is futile for them to sign the MOA.

Jimmie Applegate Here is a reminder from Matt about tonight’s meeting. See you there. jra
Hi Folks,
After a movie night in June, an Upper County meeting in July, we are back home at the Rodeo City BBQ for our month meeting this Thurs, Aug 13th at 6:30 pm.
We have a full agenda–PCO appointments, prep for the Labor Day Fair and Parade, and we are planning our own little town hall meeting for Sen. Murry in Yakima =)
Hope you can be there. Bring a friend. It’s always good to meet new Republicans!!
Regards,
Matt Manweller
