TEACHABLE MOMENT?

July 26th, 2009 by Jimmie Applegate

Analysis:  What they saw during Gates arrest.  President Obama says two men, Crowley and Gates, overreacted.  Should he have said ” three” men overreacted?

5 lessons I learned from Obama’s speech on Health Care

July 23rd, 2009 by KCRP

Obama - crafting our health care policy one cigarette at a time1. This is not his fault

2. Everyone in America will have the same insurance as Congress and the President (well…basically…er…)

3. It takes at least 5 minutes to answer each question – 30 seconds of that is devoted to the actual question

4. There are too many Senate/House Health Care committee meetings for them to be shown on CSPAN (though he promised that this and other transparency measures would occur throughout the health care reform process)

5. This is not his fault

5.5. It will not be the Democrat’s fault if it doesn’t pass the Senate (even though they have 60 votes)

GM = GOVERNMENT MOTORS

July 15th, 2009 by Jimmie Applegate

Given the current state of the economy do you believe that the government is in a strong position to manage an American automobile icon; i.e., General Motors?  The answer to the question in the title of James Antle’s article, A bankrupt U.S., in charge of GM? alone is worth the read.

FINANCING HEALTH CARE REFORM

July 7th, 2009 by Jimmie Applegate

Is anyone surprised that the Editors of the New York Times prefer “to raise revenue from a wider pool, preferably from well-to-do Americans who could be taxed more for a badly needed reform that would benefit all Americans”?  By  that they mean especially those “tens of millions of uninsured Americans”.

I wonder if the Editors looked at the reasons “tens of millions” of Americans are uninsured.  What are the reasons resting in the darkness behind the standard “I can’t afford it”, “I lost my job” or “I can’t find suitable employment”?  In other words do the personal decisions individuals make influence the roads they travel as well as their final destinations?  How and who determines where the bail outs stop and individual responsibility begins?
