KING COUNTY CONSIDERS BANNING THE ENFORCEMENT OF IMMIGRATION LAWS

June 27th, 2009 by Jimmie Applegate

Just when we might have thought we had seen the height of absurdity, our friends on the Metropolitan King County Council are at it again.  Not only has Seattle passed a “hands off” sanctuary law Ordinance #121063 to “protect” immigrants, now the Metropolitan King County Council is considering legislation prohibiting county health care facilities from denying health care “based on immigration status, and sheriff’s deputies could not ask people for immigration papers, or investigate, detain or arrest people for immigration violations” King County Immigrant’s Health Services.  In other words, those officers sworn to uphold the law would be directed “not to actively enforce immigration laws”.

This proposed legislation appears to countermand the responsibilities of Homeland Security and ICE. Reactions.

OBAMACARE: A COST ILLUSION?

June 14th, 2009 by Jimmie Applegate

President Obama and Senator Ted Kennedy want a “less filling, tastes great” health care system that will result in a politically controlled nationalized program.  They propose cutting 30% from health care programs–they call it “waste”–never mind that most of that so-called “waste” has resulted in new treatments, cures and longer more productive lives.  The Wall Street Journal in an opinion piece titled “Obama’s Health Cost Illusion” puts it this way:  “As societies grow richer, it makes sense that people will invest more in their own well being.  Health is a superior good, while utility of wealth is fairly low if you are dead”.

Senator Kennedy’s draft bill proposes insurance subsidies for a family of four up to 500% of the poverty line–that’s $10,250.00!  So much for the control of costs by the congressional Democratic majority.  Can it be that entitlement programs do not require cost control as long as everyone is entitled to something?  Oh yes, it slipped that the bailouts gave all of us a little bit of General Motors and several financial institutions.  Do you think our dividend checks will pay our share of the costs for a nationalized health care program?
