Jimmie Applegate Are you ready for a liberal 54 year old Justice of the Supreme Court who believes “….that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion [in deciding cases] than a white male who hasn’t lived that life”? In other words this activist judge, whose decisions before the Supreme Court have been overturned by the Court at a ratio of 3:1 (See CNNPolitics.com), could be in a position to “make” law for the rest of us based on her life experiences. The confirmation battle will be a bruising tug of war between conflicting ideologies. May the best man win!

Jimmie Applegate SB5525 was signed into law by Governor Gregoire on May 11, 2009. Here Senate Bill 5525 is a copy of the bill. Felons convicted primarily of property crimes and who have served 50% if their sentences are eligible for early release. Felons convicted of sex offenses, violent offenses, crimes against persons and drug crimes are eligible for early release up to 15% of their sentences. In all cases, felons are required to have housing. And what if they do not have housing? You guessed it. They are to be provided with rental vouchers of $500/month for up to three months. So not only will felons be eligible for early release but they will be eligible to receive $500/month of tax payer money to find housing in our communities. And not only that, who will pay for any local supervision required? You guessed right again–local tax dollars will foot the bill.
What is the rationale for this legislation? The state’s nine billion dollar ($9B) deficit and the “no new tax budget” According to the bill’s sponsor the state will save $1.4M each year in incarceration costs plus it will “reduce the possibility of these individuals reoffending”. And that was said without any supporting data. Do you feel better knowing that?
Oh, I almost forgot. Governor Chris Gregoire vetoed Section 4 of the bill. Section 4 required a report to the members of the legislature of the number of $500 rental vouchers distributed. Her explanation. No funds were provided in bill to pay for such a report. If that weak justification does not make you see Red, I do not know what will.

Jimmie Applegate Pat Buchanan’s sobering article, The Party’s Over is worthy of a reread given the daily reports from the Obama White House.
Has the clock stuck 12:00 midnight? I don’t think so. At least Vice President Cheney and Rush Limbaugh are standing tall with their chins out and taking the heat for acting as the loyal opposition. Vice President Cheney speaks in support of President Bush and actions taken to defend the United States of America in the absence of others who are in the know. I expected that he would be the one who would stand tall in the face of difficult odds.

The Ellensburg Address
By Lee Bates
4-29-09
One hundred days ago our voters brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in injustice, and dedicated to the proposition that all poor men who do not work can take the achiever’s money. Now we are engaged in a great debate,
testing whether that liberals, or the latest administration so conceived and so dedicated, can take money from those who earned it and give it to those who do not work. We are met on a great battle- field of that idea. We have come to dedicate a portion of that argument, as a final resting place for those who here gave their hard work so that this nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate — we can not condone it — we can not allow -this Socialism to happen. The hard working men and women, who struggled here in our great country , have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living hard working people made this country. Let it be they who are dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who have worked so hard to get ahead in this country and have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us — that from these liberal government programs to take away our hard earned money that we take increased devotion to that cause for which the hard working people in this country gave the last full measure of hard work — that we here highly resolve that these hard working people who earned their money shall not have worked in vain – that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom from Socialism — and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth by being changed into a Socialist State by the liberals.
