KITTITAS COUNTY REPUBLICAN LINCOLN DAY DINNER

March 15th, 2011 by

Here is a copy of the March 26 Lincoln Day Dinner PSA sent to the Daily Record.

You still have time to get tickets and make arrangements to attend. Only a few days left so do it now.   Look forward to seeing you there.

Kittitas GOP sets Lincoln day dinner

Kittitas County Republican Party members scheduled their annual Lincoln Day Dinner, held in honor of the 16th President and the first Republican elected President, March 26 at the Kittitas County Kittitas Valley Event Center in the Teanaway & Umtanum Halls.

The Kittitas County dinner and auction is one of the largest such events in the state surpassing most of the larger counties in the state in terms of attendance.  Susan Martin, Republican State Committeewoman chairs the dinner arrangements.  Adriana Stubbs, Kittitas County Vice Chairwoman, and Shelley Manweller co-chair the annual auction and are soliciting items now.  Money raised from the auction supports the “Cause of the Month” awarded to individuals and organizations needing financial assistance.

King County Councilman Reagan Dunn, son of former Republican State Chairwoman and six-term Congresswoman Jennifer Dunn, is the main speaker.  Councilman Dunn is expected to be a candidate for Attorney General if current Attorney General Rob McKenna seeks the governorship in 2012. In addition, the Lifetime Achievement and Volunteer of the Year awards will be presented.  Invited guests include Congressman Doc Hastings,  State Senator Janea Holmquist Newbry, State Representatives Bill Hinkle and Judith Warnick, recently elected Washington Republican Party State Chairman Kirby Wilbur, TV personality Susan Hutchison who is considering a challenge to Senator Maria Cantwell and State Attorney General Rob McKenna.

“We are excited to have such a high profile line-up for the event and hope to get a glimpse of what the 2012 political races will look like. We think it will be a fun night for everyone” notes Party Chairman Matt Manweller.

Events include a live music, dinner, and silent and live auctions. Tickets are available online at www.kittitasrepublicans.org.

AMERICAN CONSTITUTIONALISM

March 12th, 2011 by

I have changed the citation in the previous blog two times without success–still won’t come up:(  So, I found a more complete preview of The Language of Law and the Foundations of American Constitutionalism by the author, Dr. Gary L. McDowell.  McDowell answers the question, “Is the Constitution a living document or is it a document with a fixed and permanent meaning?”  Check this out.  It is worth a read.

STRONG ARGUMENT FOR CONSTITUTIONAL CONSERVATISM

March 11th, 2011 by

Steve Douglas called attention to this column titled Moral Foundations of Originalism written by Gary L. McDowell.  McDowell argues that the Constitution is not a living document that is subject to interpretation and reinterpretation by a succession of liberal judges.  He says that decisions should be bound by a strict constructionist point of view and not from the “private sentiments” that are found in “the breast of the judge”.  And further, McDowell argues, the meaning of the Constitution is to be found in “the intentions of the framers and not in the sympathies of the judge”.  What great statements to be used as a litmus test for candidates for judgeships!  Judgeships are just one office, constitutional conservatives must get involved with local school boards, city council, county commissioner, state and national elections.  Let’s make sure candidates for supposedly apolitical, as well as political, offices are asked if they agree with these statements regarding originalism.

UPDATED POST RE WISCONSIN DEATH THREATS

March 10th, 2011 by

Kirk Groenig posted a link to a story that reports death threats to the Wisconsin Governor Walker and to the Republican Senators who, tired of placing hide and seek with their Democratic colleagues who abdicated their responsibilities as representatives of the people, passed legislation to break the stalemate in the Wisconsin Senate.  You will be shocked at the directness of the threats to the Governor, Senators, families, associates and others in the vicinity of the threatened Republican Governor and Senators.  Do you suppose the perps when caught, and they will be, will be psycho-analyzed and found to have been negatively influenced by the liberal progressive socialist philosophy of an entitlement state from cradle to grave?  I’ll bet not!

I wonder how the main stream media will manage to portray these threats as coming from right wing extremists, tea partiers and Nazis.  Let me know if you see such an attempt.

THURSDAY IS A GOOD DAY!

March 10th, 2011 by

Thanks to Republican Senators in the Wisconsin Senate who finally had enough playing hide and seek games with their Democratic colleagues who are hiding (probably paid for by union supporters) out of state!  And thanks to Governor Walker for hanging tough through some difficult times.  Governor Walker and Republican Senators stripped the bill that limits union influence of financial costs and passed it without the quorum required for money bills.

Thanks also to Rep. Peter King (Republican of course) Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee for holding hearings on the very real extremist Muslim threat and for when he said, “If we know a threat is there…..can we not investigate it?”  He also said, “to back down would be a craven surrender to political correctness”.  The hearings titled, “The Extent of Radicalism in the American Muslim Community and that Community’s Response” begin today in spite of the threats to Rep. King that have resulted in 24/7 security.

DON’T FORGET………….Monthly KCRP meeting tonight.  6:30-8:00 promptly at the Rodeo City BBQ.  Lots to do as preparations for the March 26 Lincoln Day Dinner are finalized.  Ticket sellers please bring updated information for Susan Martin.  Adriana Stubbs and Shelley Manweller need information regarding items for Dessert Auction and Silent Auction.

February 9th, 2011 by

See you tomorrow, Thursday, 6:30-8:00 PM at the Rodeo City BBQ for the regularly scheduled meeting.  Looks like a full agenda including ByLaws amendment and Lincoln Day Dinner update.

REORGANIZATION MEETING

January 2nd, 2011 by

I just deleted some spam blogs and was getting ready to write a reminder about our Reorganization Meeting this Thursday, January 6 when Matt’s email reminder arrived.  I have copied it as follows:

“Hi Folks…and a Happy New Year!

This email is to remind you that the once every two-year Kittitas County GOP Reorganization meeting is THIS THURSDAY at the Rodeo City BBQ from 6:30 to 8:00. I am excited to announce we will have a very special guest–Kirby Wilbur will be joining us.

We typically meet on the second Thurs of the month, but the state bylaws require that we meet earlier than usual. So, we will be meeting the first Thurs this one time. A written reminder of this meeting has been sent to all the elected PCOs, but the meeting is open to the general membership.

Hope to see you there. We will be electing new officers, debating new bylaw changes, and discussing changes to this years Lincoln Day Dinner.

 Thank you,

Matt Manweller

Chairman,  Kittitas GOP”

REMINDER:  It is imperative that 60% of the newly elected PCO’s attend for the election to be conducted.  The election will be the first item of business so please  schedule accordingly.  The meeting will begin at promptly at 6:30 at the Rodeo City BBQ.

KCRP REORGANIZATION MEETING CRITICAL UPDATE

December 10th, 2010 by

Chairman Manweller rescheduled the KCRP Reorganization Meeting to the first Thursday of January to comply with WSRP rules.

Mark this change on your calendars:  Thursday, January 6, 2011.

According to County ByLaws 60% of the newly elected PCOs must be present (no proxies permitted) for a quorum to conduct business.  According to the official midterm election returns 31 Republican PCOs were elected; therefore, 19 must be present on January 6 to conduct the election.

This is critical.  Please help spread the word via snail mail, email, Facebook, Twitter, smoke signals or maybe even a telephone–whatever works for you.
